    Trekking in Everest Base camp is all about trekking in high altitude. We have to be really careful. We have to get fully acclimatization before heading to high altitude. So, we have two rest day. On those days we hike up and sleep at low altitude. It is important to read our body. There can be some symptoms. If you see symptoms we have to come down as fast as you can and you will be normal. At Everest there are Luxury lodge and we can upgrade your trip. We will hire local supporter and on the way back instead of walking same way back, we can fly back to Lukla.

    Weather, Equipment, Guide

    Weather is cold in Everest Base camp trek. Towards high altitude the temperature is freezing cold and windy. So, we have to carry good equipment. We can get all trekking equipment at Thamel, Kathmandu.

    Single trekkers for Everest Base Camp.

    We can have flexibility of departure any day as per your time frame. There will be guide going from Kathmandu and supporter will accompany you from Lukla. If you feel you don’t want to have guide you will get supporter from Lukla. Or you can have both guide and supporter. Higher up we go the accommodation can be a problem you might have to share the room other clients.

    What is the weather in Everest Base Camp?

    The weather in March, April, May, September, October and November is very nice and pleasant. But still you have to carry warm gears. Night temperature goes minus. So, it is good to carry sleeping bag with inner. If you are travelling Everest Base Camp in December, January and February you have to carry very good warm gears and crampons too. In rainy season do carry good rain coats.

    How cold is Everest base camp in trekking season?

    In lower reason of the trek the temperature is 2-3 degree centigrade and 15 degree maximum. In upper region night temperature is minus 7 to maximum 10 degree centigrade. During the day time it is warm and towards midnight the temperature is low. When you climb Kalapathar or walk to Everest Base Camp that day you will have to start at 4 am and will be cold. So, you have to be prepared for it. But in winter December, January and February there can be high snow fall which makes trek impossible. In the day time in high altitude the temperature will be like minus 12 degree centigrade.

    How cold is Mount Everest Base Camp?

    The minimum temperature in Everest base camp is minus 7 degrees in its best trekking season. The best season to trek EBC is in autumn and spring season. Near the Everest base camp, you will be suffering more from dry wind than cold temperatures. The dining hall in the entire guesthouse is warm enough. They make a fire inside the big dining to make enough warm but your room is without any hitting system. This is the reason you have to have warmed enough sleeping bags with inner. They also provide you with a blanket if you’re sleeping bag is not enough for you. March, April, May, September, October and November is considered to be best time to trek.

    Our airport representative will meet you at airport, just look for your name and Supporter trek name plate at airport and we will transfer you to hotel in Thamel. / Evening briefing and walking tour around Thamel.

    We will visit Pashupatinath, Boudhanath stupa and Swayambhunath stupa and final preparation for the trek.

    In the peak season we need to drive to Manthali/ Ramachhap for the flight to Lukla. Other season you can fly from Kathmandu to Lukla. Same day you fly to Lukla have to walk for about 8 km and it is walking down to Phakding for 3 hours.

    Today we meet entrance check point of Sagarmatha National Park there are farm and field also Yak Pasture we come across. After Lunch we head toward Namche Bazar, Namche Bazar is the largest Sherpa village in Khumbu region. It is the starting point of treks and expeditions. At Namche Bazar you can buy anything for the trek.

    We hike to Everest view hotel. Today is rest day but we hike and come down at Namche. It helps to acclimatize, our body gets fit with the altitude. This is the best way to get acclimatization in the altitude.

    We also can visit Sir Edmund Hillary school. Today we can see mountain like Thamserku, Kwangde, Kangtega, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and mt. Everest, the tallest mountain in the world.

    Today is interesting day as there is not much of climb and descent. We meet Stupas, maniwalls and prayer flags all along. Tengboche Monastery is worth visiting. In the monastery you can light butter lamp and meditate. The trial to Tengboche is easy but a bit dusty. Ama Dablam is the mountain you see most often today.

    The trail is challenging and as well as scenic. Before climbing uphill to Dingboche we follow trial along Imja khola. We can see potatoes fileds. We get Spectacular view of Ama Dablam’s. Dingboche is the highest Sherpa settlement in the Khumbu Region. Afternoon will be free. We can explore and roam around.

    Today again we rest at Dingboche. It is second day we acclimatize after Namche. There are various places to hike but hike to Nagarjun hill will be ideal one. When we hike up and sleep at low altitude our body gets acclimatize.

    We have gentle climb towards the Pheriche valley after that we come across yak pastures. We also come across valley floor. Today Ama Dablam appears just next to us. The panaromic views of Nuptse, Lhotse and Lhotse Shar is amazing. Upon arrival to Lobuche the scenic beauty is amazing.

    It takes around 3 hours to reach Gorakshep from Lobuche. On the same day we can head to Everest Base camp and we come back and sleep at Gorakshep.

    Today is exciting day as we get views of many snowcapped peak including Mt. Everest. We go to Kalapatthar early morning, the height of Kalapatthar is 5,545m. Kalapatthar literary mean black rock. It doesn’t need any permit to climb it. The view of Himalaya is amazing from Kalapatthar. The view of Everest, Nuptse and Changtse is Spectacular. We walk back to Pheriche.

    Today especially the trail is descending. Walking distance is more but with all good memory we return to Namche. Again you are in greenery and forest.

    Today there is both descending and ascending to Lukla and night hault at Lukla. Final day of our trek finishes. With all good memories of trek. We say good bye to our Everest Base camp trek.

    If your flight is back to Kathmandu you will be transferred to Kathmandu or if your flight is at Manthali/ Ramachhap we will transfer you to Kathmandu. Shopping and free day.

    We will have one extra day to play with weather and rest day. Shopping and day on your own.

    We will transfer you to international airport before 3 hours of flight to make you fly back home.

    Accommodation on city and trek

    Accommodation in cities like Kathmandu is medium standard hotels whereas while you are on the trek it is tea houses. Most of the teahouses in Everest are with 2 beds. Toilet and Bathrooms are common. So it is more basic than luxury with minimum facilities. Sometimes in peak season towards high altitude you might have to sleep in dining hall, which can be a new experience too. Accommodation everywhere is twin sharing. In case of single supplement you have to pay extra.

    Food in the trip

    Lunch and dinner is not included in cities like Kathmandu. Kathmandu, the transit point of the trek, has lots of hotels and restaurants. The hotel also provides good food. Or if you are staying in Thamel the touristic area of Kathmandu, there are plenty of restaurants serving food of international standard. You can have lunch and dinner at a reasonable price in Thamel as well too. Whereas when you are on a trek it is good to order the same food when you are in a group. Saves time, fuel and cost. You can have a choice of food on the trek too. It is good to have soup and liquid items while you are towards high altitude even though you don’t like eating solid food. Please avoid alcoholic beverages and smoking when you are at altitude. Please don’t throw or waste the food.

    Guide and Supporter

    Both the Guide and Supporter are helpful, hardworking, friendly and experienced. Normally guides are educated English speakers, they know about people and culture and of course the route of the trek.They are trained in first aid and are well known about high altitude sickness. Most of the supporters understand little English and they are charming. If you need a guide with your own language. The cost will be extra. Supporter Treks and Tours wants one trekker, one supporter, that way you will be taken good care of. It is because you are creating a job and you might need to pay little more than the actual price. Our aim is to provide job to supporters and not to over load them.

    Drinking water while Trekking

    You will have to buy the mineral water. Bottled water is available in most of the places. But it would be a good idea to buy a water purifying tablet from Kathmandu and drink the boiled water on the trek. The higher you go the price of water increases. Please carry a water bottle while you are trekking. Guide, supporters and local people drink the water from the tap which may cause sickness to you. We Nepalese people are used to it. But not you.

    First Aid Kits Medicines

    If you are taking regular medicine, please carry it and take it on time. Our first aid box has medicine for normal fever, headache, common cold, and vomiting. We carry antiseptic lotion, Bandage, handiplast and dressing medicines. If you want to take precautions against altitude sickness you will get medicine at pharmacies around Kathmandu.

    How to reduce plastic and save environment?

    Please do respect the local people and culture. Please don’t litter, dispose of the garbage in the proper dustbin. Please try not to use plastic or reuse it. If you want to keep the environment more clean rather than using plastic bottles, use the boiled water with water purifying tablets. If you are using the batteries please take it back home.

    How is the culture of Local people and how to respect to it?

    There are various ethnic groups of people you meet on the way while trekking to Everest base camp. Mostly they are Sherpa people. They have rich culture, they have their own attire. Likewise their living style is typical and has its own importance. They feel proud of their culture and they are able to preserve it. So we trekkers need to respect their culture and help them to preserve it. It is good to wear full sleeve dress while you go in Monasteries.

    How is guide and his role?

    Trekkers need to be responsible. In terms of taking decisions, trekkers can decide it but you have to make sure you take permission or co-ordinate with the guide. Like in the case you are a little sick andyou feel like continuing trek you may proceed but if you are too weak and you have symptoms of altitudeyou need to come down. You have to obey the guide. Or in serious issues you might need air lift pleasedo it. Life is more important than any other thing.

    What is fooding in Everest Base camp Trek?

    It is good to order enough food while you are trekking as your calories are burned while you trek. So you need good enough food but it would be useless if you order too much food and not eat it. Please don’t waste food. While you trek to Everest base camp the meat are not fresh. So, it is good to be vegetarian.

    How easy is Everest base camp Trek?

    In the Everest Base Camp Trek you need to go as slow as possible. You need proper rest, acclimatization before you head to Kalapatthar and Everest Base camp. It is good to quit smoking and drink alcoholic beverages throughout the trekking. If you are into habit of drinking alcohol in altitude you might have headache following day or same day too. Trekkers will not know, it is a headache of alcohol or altitude sickness. It can be a very serious issue and it is very risk in altitude. So, please avoid smoking and drinking alcoholic drinks.

    Is altitude sickness a problem in Everest base camp Trek?

    Normally while you are trekking in Nepal, especially to base camp of Everest. There is high chances of having the altitude sickness. We need to prevent altitude sickness. For that you need to drink plenty of water, soup items (garlic soups) and juice. Say no to cigarette and don’t drink alcoholic beverage. If you have headache and can’t sleep at night you need to inform you roommate and inform guide. If you have sever symptom of altitude you it can lead to vomiting and you might be unconscious. The best way is to take precaution of altitude sickness is to go as slow as possible and have proper rest and we do hike and rest in low altitude. We can take medicine like Diamox in advance. In the case you get altitude sickness the best way is to get down as quick as possible and in severe case we take helicopter. But if you drink plenty of fluid, take rest and go, you can easily overcome altitude sickness.

    FAQs

    Above 3500 meter the symptoms of altitude sickness is more. There can be various symptoms of altitude sickness. We go to fast too high on trek. It creates problem. It can start with headache, vomiting, dizziness and more. It can turn worst in case it is neglected. You can loose your life. So please don’t smoke or consume alcoholic beverage. Drink plenty of water, juice and soups. If you want to take precaution taking Diamox (altitude medicine) after you cross Namche Bazar. Everytime you have to be in touch with guide and keep updating your health issue. The best way to get rid of altitude is come down as fast as possible.

    From your arrival to departure the trek is 16 days. But sometimes due to weather the flight get cancelled and delays due to weather. So, is good to keep spare day. The 16 days Itinerary has 2 days to acclimatize but still we can keep one or two days more that will be more effective. The slower we go the body gets more acclimatize.

    Walking hour and distance is short but altitude wise it is risk going to Everest Base camp. We can get altitude sickness. As soon as we see sickness we need to come down.

    Yes, for sure you need to have guide and supporter. They will help you to carry your luggage and assist you all the way to Everest Base camp and Kalapatthar. In case you get problem they will arrange need help. They will be ready to carry to back in case of emergency. You can consult with guide if you have any problem.     Yes, it is safe to travel to Everest camp. There are good tea house, good hygienic food, the helpful guide. In case of emergency guide and supporter you are along with you will help you a lot. There are helipad and helicopter flying almost everywhere. The guide and local people can arrange it.

    Everest base camp trek in comparisons to other trek is expensive. As there is no road access the goods has to be carried by humans and mules or use heli. So, things are a bit expensive. As we will be staying in teahouses. It depends which range of tea houses you use. There is choice of accommodation too. That you if you choose the high standard hotel is it a bit expensive. But comparison to camping trek it is cheap.
