    Visa Process for Tibet Overland Tour

    We need to get your passport scan copy a month in advance to apply for Tibet travel permit. Original passport is needed 3 days in advance before travelling to Tibet. We will get paper visa for Tibet that allows us to travel to Tibet. Chinese visa in passport doesn’t allow you to go from Nepal to Tibet. We have to get paper visa.

    Every Saturday is fixed departure. Every agency might have tourist to visit Tibet, we form a group of five and send them together. But in Tibet all the group should be together. We can’t split the group.

    When the group is 5 people we use Jeep to go to Tibet. In Nepal side there will be Nepal’s Jeep and if the group is big we use bus. While you are in Tibet Land cruiser/ Jeep is mostly used. From Tibet we fly back to Kathmandu. The flight is scenic.

    After breakfast at hotel, early morning we will drive to Kerung Border. According to group size of traveler we use appropriate vehicle. The drive is scenic full of greenery. We spend over night at Kerung border.

    We will meet Tibetan guide after the immigration formality at boarder and we will drive to Lhatse. We will than see the different landscape. We enter semi desert and desert type of climate. It is scenic drive. Drink plenty water and fluids as we gain altitude.

    Depends where we halt the night. We might stop at Tingri or at Lhatse. Anyway after breakfast at the hotel we will drive from Lhaste to Xigatse. Drinking alcohol and smoking is prohibited as you will not know if the headache is of alcohol or altitude sickness. In case you have headache, vomiting or dizziness you have to inform guide and you have to come back.

    After breakfast we will drive to Gyantse. Today is the short drive. We visit monasteries with the Tibetan guide.

    After breakfast we drive to Lhasa. The drive is long. So, after the long drive, we reach Lhasa and we rest at Lhasa.

    We will do sightseeing around Lhasa with the guide. Entry fee all the monument is included in the package. Lhasa has many things to see and it is quite interesting to tour around Lhasa. We will visit Potala Palace, Norbulingka Palace and Tibet Traditional Hospital.

    After breakfast we will do sightseeing in rest of the places. Todays Sightseeing includes Sera Monsatery Drepung Monastery, Jokhang temple and Barkhor Bazaar. We all have good memories of Tibet and ready to fly to Kathmandu tomorrow.

    After breakfast we drive to Gonggar for about an hour to fly back to Kathmandu.

    How difficult is the tour to Lhasa by overland?

    we travel from Kathmandu to Lhasa by Land. We spend night over 3500m on second day. It can be a problem in terms of altitude. We can get sickness of altitude. We can take precaution like take Diamox, medicine for altitude sickness. We need to drink lots of water, juice and soups. Avoid drinking alcohol and please don’t smoke. This tour is difficult so we have to be careful. In case of difficulty you have to inform guide.

    How is the accommodation in Tibet?

    The accommodation is very basic. The toilet is common toilet is most of the places. It is also very basic. For 3 days while going to Kora we have to use Dormitory. You have to compromise as it is adventurous trip. We also can upgrade your trip if you pay more and you have more people to travel with.
